Apparently, Bill knew very early on that he wanted to be a police officer because in the early 1980s he began working as a ranger for the Westchester County Police Department. It was what was formerly called County Parkway Specials, and they were seasonal employees at several parks. He did extensive training for this job, including firearms, first aid, EDP, etc.
He loved this job and was continued to be hired every year for nearly a dozen years. In 1968, he was one of the first 10 candidates to be inducted into the Westchester County Sports Hall of Fame.
